Super Connected Gigabit Broadband Service at The Maltings

The Maltings  iconic grade II listed building near the city centre, has become the first building to be completely wired with fibre optic broadband. This provides every tenant occupying an office at the business centre, the opportunity to have a direct connection to an ultrafast broadband service.
The Gigabit service will transform the way businesses in The Maltings operate and provide a platform for innovation; enabling services that are only possible with superfast speeds such as video conferencing and VoIP, removing time limitations on information sharing and benefiting from cost savings that come from services such as Cloud based applications.

The ultrafast service has been provided following funding supplied by the Super Connected Cardiff scheme from Cardiff Council.  Local Internet Service Provider, Spectrum Internet, has provided a Fibre-to-the-Premise solution to TheMaltings supplying the building with broadband speeds up to 1Gbps.

Gareth Oram, Office Manager of the The Maltings said “We’ve had a £3m refurbishment which means The Maltings now offers high tech luxury Self-Managed and Fully Serviced offices that will now benefit from super-fast broadband”.  He added “The new Gigabit service has future-proofed the building which is resulting in huge efficiencies for our tenants. This service not only completes our offering of providing ultra-modern services in a 19th century setting but is also generating increased interest from prospective tenants”.

Ever Increasing Tenant Occupancy At The Maltings Business Centre

The latest GDP figures from the ONS (Office for National Statistics) show that the UK narrowly avoided a dreaded triple dip recession, as our economy grew by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2013.

Whilst it is widely accepted that there is no quick fix, or foreseeable end to this period of economic uncertainty, recent increased tenant occupancy levels at The Maltings business centre, tend to convey a more positive outlook.

Since its official completion in January 2012, The Maltings have implemented a diverse marketing strategy to help promote the ambitious £3m redevelopment, which includes the following enhanced facilities:

  • 24 hour 365 days a year on-site manned security
  • Both serviced & self-managed office suites
  • Fully serviced professional reception area
  • On-site gymnasium with free membership for tenants
  • Outstanding meeting venues
  • Courtesy transport to/from Cardiff city centre
  • On site café/coffee shop
  • Ample on-site car parking

It appears that the concept of modern contemporary offices set within a landmark 19th century building, is an attractive proposition to both new business startups and more established organisations.

This theory is supported by the findings of a recent internal tenant occupancy review, which shows that the take up of new office space at The Maltings, has by far exceeded the anticipated projections of several commercial property experts.

Everyone at The Maltings is extremely proud of the thriving business community developing at our Cardiff Bay headquarters, and we are already planning the next phase of development, as only a handful of existing office suites remain vacant.

If you would like to arrange an office viewing at The Maltings, then please send us an email or contact Kathy Fox, Gareth Oram or Alex Davies on 02920 462045.

The Maltings Supports University & Grass Roots Rugby Teams

With a Company Chairman who is a former PE Teacher, it is not surprising to hear that The Maltings has a close connection and affinity with sport. Throughout our 30 year history, we have always looked for opportunities to support local sports teams and community initiatives.

The most recent teams to have benefited from a sponsorship deal with The Maltings are, Cardiff MetropolitanRFC and Monmouth RFC.

Currently sitting third in the newly created Swalec Championship division, Cardiff Metropolitan RFC are an exciting team of University students that are renowned for playing high risk expansive rugby. Whilst the first XV are the headline makers, it is important not to forget that there are five other senior teams actively fulfilling fixtures every week.

After successfully securing promotion last season, Monmouth RFC are consolidating their position in Division 4 East of the Welsh National League structure. The popular rugby club is situated in the heart of the picturesque welsh border town, and is a central focal point for numerous children and adults within the local community. Clearly the clubs hierarchy understands the importance of nurturing young talent, as Monmouth RFC run an impressive young rugby structure – consisting of teams of every age group from Under 7-s to Under 16’s.

Shown above is Monmouth RFC Chairman - Lloyd Davies, presenting The Maltings Alex Davies, Gareth Oram and Andrew Partridge with framed shirts that are worn by all junior and senior players after matches

Everyone at The Maltings is extremely proud to be supporting the development of rugby union in Wales, and we would like to wish both Cardiff Metropolitan RFC & Monmouth RFC the best of luck for the remainder of this season.

The Maltings Bespoke Document Management Service v Self Storage Solutions

Information security, data protection and legal compliance are three vitally important business components, which if managed incorrectly can have severe consequences to a company’s owners, directors and staff. Surprisingly many organisations continue to store business critical archive records, within a rented room located inside one of the ever growing number of city centre based self-store facilities.

The decision to opt for a self-storage unit may be based on a misconstrued perception, that a fully managed archive service is a more expensive solution for effective document retention. By analysing the actual costs and previously unconsidered factors, the comparison below shows that The Maltings document management service costs less than you think!!

Cost Efficiency

·         Stacking boxes several layers high in a confined space, will damage the boxes and make retrieving documents difficult.
·         When a storage unit is filled to capacity, another entire unit must be rented - thus increasing the monthly storage cost per box.

·        Monthly storage costs per standard bankers box are less than 1½ pence per day - regardless of how many boxes are stored. Customers only pey for what they need.

Retrieval & Collection Service

·         Sending company staff to retrieve documents will incur wages, liability insurance, mileage allowance and lost office productivity.
·         With multiple staff accessing the unit, accurately returning files to storage is not guaranteed due to shared accountability.

·         With a simple email, any number of files or boxes can be delivered to your office or desk within hours.
·         Files are tracked on our bespoke database, and returned to their correct location by our fully trained archivists.
·         Our fully inclusive service means that all handlings, local deliveries and collections are conducted – FREE OF CHARGE!!

Security Methods

·         Unsupervised access is often allowed, a constant thoroughfare of unknown people pose a potential threat to your records.
·         The range of materials stored within neighbouring units is unknown.

·         Only staff who are fully trained and CRB checked have access to our customers archive records.
·        Our storage facilities are protected 24/7 by manned security and CCTV coverage.

If you based in South Wales or Bristol and are currently storing archive records in a self storage facility, then please contact The Maltings on 02920 462045 to enquire about a more efficient and cost effective document management solution.
